Ximena Aguilera, director of the Health Observatory at Diego Portales University, participated in a report published by El Mercurio titled “With online inventory, they seek to save $35 billion in drug management,” where she addressed the potential of interoperability platforms to optimize the supply of medications in the public health network.
In the publication, Aguilera highlighted that the implementation of online inventory systems can generate significant benefits for hospital management. “This not only allows for better procurement management, but also enables hospitals to coordinate networked supply management, sharing and compensating for shortages and overstocks,” she stated.
The former Minister of Health also warned that one of the main challenges to advancing these types of initiatives lies in the existing differences between healthcare facilities. In that regard, he explained that “not all hospitals have the same size, complexity, or access to the tools that allow them to incorporate these technologies. Larger hospitals, with higher expenditures on supplies, are self-managed, so there must be incentives for them to integrate into the interoperability system.”
