Ximena Aguilera, director of the Health Observatory at Diego Portales University, participated in a report by El Mercurio about the decline in vaccination coverage among older adults and the challenges of strengthening immunization in this population group.
In the article, Aguilera explained that the perceived risk of diseases and the ease of access to vaccination sites are key factors in achieving greater coverage. She also noted that 2,428 deaths from influenza and pneumonia have been recorded in the country this year, 2,117 of which were among people over 65. She emphasized that vaccination is still recommended, given that new outbreaks of respiratory viruses may occur in the spring.
